The goal for a nonprofit posting on Facebook is to engage a particular audience, to feature services provided, to maintain good public relations, and to support relationships with donors or members. There are ways to do this most effectively.
First and foremost all posts must express the mission and reflect positively on the brand. Whether you have an intern, a volunteer, a board member or a staff member managing the organization's page, posts, comments and messages, the Executive Director and the Development Director should provide some guidelines and oversight.
Facebook’s algorithm gives priority to posts that receive more (more than one word) comments, more shares, and more views. The organization’s Facebook persona needs to show up daily. It needs to be attractive to Gen X, Gen Y, Boomers, and the Silent Generation. The page needs to express a fresh, current, relevant, transparent, engaging persona that makes sense for the organization. Creating a plan for promotions of posts and messaging that support the organization’s services as well as communicates the need for support of those services through donations, volunteering, membership or purchase of event tickets is critical to successfully using Facebook as part of your advertising/marketing plan.
